Brand Pillars

When I really took time to reflect on what I wanted my brand to represent, I gained a sense of clarity of where I source my values, community, and inspiration. It is through these 5 pillars that I express my creativity and my heart most authentically and joyfully. Each pillar inspires the other and brings in fresh ideas. None of us have to do just one thing or be just one thing! Giving myself permission to be multi-passionate has been so freeing. I hope this encourages you to look within and find your pillars. Which areas of your life do you find yourself consistently drawing from for inspiration? What brings the most joy? The answers will show you the way.

Faith

My Christian faith centers me and brings order and purpose to the countless ideas swirling around in my head. You’ll see this tapestry of faith woven throughout my creative work. I feel it’s my responsibility to use every bit of ability I’ve been given (and to also nurture these abilities and be a lifelong learner!) to encourage others and to honor the Lord.

My life quote, which you see me holding above, is from Erma Bombeck and says, “When I stand before God at the end of my life I would hope that I would have not a single bit of talent left and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.” Notice the quote doesn’t say to only use our talent if we are the best at something; it says to use every bit we have.

I wrestled with this concept for a long time, to be honest, wondering if it’s even worth doing something if I can’t be the best at it. But here’s the reality: THERE IS NO BEST, AND IT’S NOT A COMPETITION. Our talents are uniquely our own. The way I write, sing, and paint reflect my own unique perspective. And that matters, friends, because someone needs what I have to give. And someone needs what YOU have to give, too. May we all be good stewards of our gifts.

Music

Music has been a major influence in my life since I started playing piano at age four. I grew up singing and playing several instruments, often with my brother.

In 2010 my brother encouraged me to write my own music as a platform to promote the causes I care deeply about.

This journey led me to showcase at the Bluebird Cafe, WoodyFest, and SXSW, and also to a second-place win in the Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest.

My mission in music is to share a positive message of hope and encouragement and to be a voice for those who cannot advocate for themselves.

Throughout my musical journey I’ve always been involved with faith-based music, whether leading worship nights, serving on worship teams, or writing original inspirational songs. To that end, I’ve recently released a new album, Herald, which features eight original, faith-based songs. I’m deeply excited for these songs to find their way out into the world to touch hearts and be an encouragement.

Writing

As an editor of both my high school and college newspapers, I’ve always loved composing and editing the written word. For over twenty-two years I’ve continued to hone these skills working as a professional fundraiser, raising over $25 million for causes I care about. Two decades of proposals, emails, letters, presentations, and webpages later I still enjoy the craft. And I especially love coaching others on how to make their own writing more persuasive using my three guiding principles: Keep It Simple, Stay Positive, and Use What You Already Know.

Most recently I’ve added published poet to my resume, having just been named a national 2023 Woody Guthrie Poet.

You can also subscribe to my Newsletter to hear the latest on all that I’m doing, both creatively and in animal welfare. And my Blog will cover a wide variety of topics, too. What would you like to see me cover in my blogs? Message me with ideas!

Animals

I’ve always been an animal lover, especially cats and dogs. In 2004 my husband and I moved to Alabama, and I was stunned by how many stray dogs and cats I saw. I immediately jumped into action and started learning about the pet overpopulation crisis and ways I could help.

I've partnered with many rescues and shelters over the years, and my husband and I have taken in over 100 dogs and probably as many cats. It’s a lifestyle for us! I also use my impressionistic-style artwork to tell the stories of rescue dogs, and I utilize my social media channels to promote dog and cat adoption. Follow my Blog to meet my own pets, learn pet care tips, and more.

Art

I’m painting a lot right now to finish a collection for my new album Herald. All paintings in the collection are created on upcycled canvas or wood, and I’m beyond excited to share them with you.
